Laura and Adam | King Edward Park Wedding

Laura and Adam’s King Edward Park Wedding - Newcastle

Laura & Adam held their inner-city Newcastle wedding at King Edward Park. A Newcastle wedding was very different from their initial plan, quite the opposite. This decision saw them change from rolling hills & vineyards to cliffs and some epic city locations.

Laura & Adam had planned for a large wedding at the Hunter Valley wedding venue, Dark Horse Vineyard. However, things changed, and they decided to bring the wedding forward a few months and switch it up to a small elopement-style wedding in the heart of Newcastle CBD. The wedding ceremony occurred with the two of them, a couple of their close friends as witnesses, their celebrant, and myself documenting it all at King Edward Park in the rotunda.

The weather that day was quite up and down. The sun was shining for the ceremony and the conditions were flawless. However, the weather was turning soon after the ceremony and we started doing a few portraits of the newlyweds at King Edward Park in the gardens. The rain moved in, and heavy cloud cover blanketed the coast. We quickly ran up the hill to our cars to get cover.

Following this, the rain eased slightly, and a rainbow appeared; we decided to embrace the conditions, running up the top of Shepherds Hill. From there, we went into the city to get a little more shelter, utilising the Old Train Station, Bolton Street with its unique architecture, Hunter Street and a few other spots around the CBD that I knew would guarantee fantastic photos for these two lovers.

One of the most memorable moments was when they stood in front of an old bank building in the city, sheltered from the rain, in front of huge ornamental doors, reading each other their personal vows. The emotion ran high during this moment, and being part of this was truly special. The vulnerability and openness allowed me to document some incredible moments between them. It was almost as though when they were reading their vows, the chaos, noise and wild weather surrounding us ceased to exist, if only for a moment.

It was such a perfect afternoon. It was not your typical wedding, but a more intimate celebration of love without all the stuff. That is precisely what these two were wanting. And despite the challenges of the weather, it allowed us to create some unique images. Capturing these iconic, instantly recognisable locations in a new light.
