Jenny & Chet | Lincoln’s Rock Couples Shoot – Blue Mountains Magic

If couples could earn loyalty points for shoots, Jenny & Chet would be platinum members by now. 😂 From city sessions to their wedding day, their tea ceremony, and now a fog-drenched adventure in the Blue Mountains — we’ve covered a lot of ground together.

This session wasn’t planned… but honestly, those are usually the best ones.

A Completely Spontaneous Blue Mountains Shoot

I’d been shooting a wedding in the Blue Mountains earlier that afternoon, followed by an engagement session in the Southern Highlands. Between the two, the world gifted me a tiny sliver of free time — so I figured, why not make the most of being here?

I messaged Jenny & Chet (who always bring chaos + charm in equal measure), and within hours the plan was locked in:
a last-minute, windswept couples shoot at Lincoln’s Rock, one of the most iconic cliffside lookouts in NSW.

If you love relaxed, natural photography like this, you may enjoy seeing how I shoot weddings as well — here’s a look at my relaxed wedding photography across NSW.

Rainy Engagement Shoot at Lincoln's Rock Blue Mountains

Legendary Conditions (AKA: The Weather Tried to End Us)

When we pulled up to Lincoln’s Rock, it became very clear…
There would be no golden hour.

A thick, rolling fog swallowed the entire Jamison Valley. The usual sweeping views? Gone. Replaced with a white wall of mist so dense it felt like standing inside a cloud.

Then came the wind.
Cold. Relentless. The type that makes holding a camera feel like upper-body day at the gym.

But did Jenny & Chet complain?
Not even once.

They leaned in. They laughed. They embraced the absolute chaos of it all. And because they’ve stood in front of my camera so many times before, we didn’t need a warm-up — we hit the ground running.

Fog, Rain & Pure Cinematic Vibes

Honestly? The whiteout turned the shoot into something special.
The fog created a moody, minimalist backdrop that made every frame feel intimate and cinematic. It felt like the entire world had disappeared and left just the three of us up there — wind, rain, laughter and a bit of shivering.

We worked fast because the wind was brutal (and because fingers were turning into popsicles), but every movement — running, hugging, dancing, holding tight to each other — looked effortless on camera.

This is the kind of session where everything not going to plan made it unforgettable.

Why I Love Shooting in the Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains is easily one of my favourite regions to photograph.
It’s dramatic. Unpredictable. Wild in the most inspiring ways.

Around places like Lincoln’s Rock, Govetts Leap and Mount Wilson, the weather can flip in minutes — from bright golden light to moody fog and sharp temperature drops. And while that unpredictability keeps you on your toes as a photographer… it also leads to some of the most meaningful, expressive images.

Couples often ask, “What if the weather’s bad?”

But “bad” weather isn’t a problem — it’s personality.
Wind adds movement.
Fog adds mood.
Rain adds emotion and texture.
And more than anything, it gives couples an experience they’ll remember forever.

A Few Tips for Shooting at Lincoln’s Rock

Thinking about a session here? A quick PSA:

  • The wind is real. Bring jackets and secure your gear.

  • Sunset is unpredictable. Don’t rely on clear skies.

  • There’s zero cover. If it rains, you’re getting wet.

  • The location is easy to access, making it perfect for quick elopements or short sessions.

And honestly? The moodier the weather, the better the atmosphere.

For Future Couples Considering a Blue Mountains Shoot

You don’t need a milestone or a perfect forecast to book a couples shoot like this.
Some of the most powerful, emotional images come from leaning into whatever the day gives you.

Jenny & Chet didn’t get sweeping views that afternoon — but they got something better:
connection, adventure and a gallery that feels like a story.

It’s raw, real, and one of my favourite sets from this year.

Final Thoughts

Being a wedding photographer means witnessing love in every setting imaginable — from luxury venues to wild mountain cliffs. But every now and then, there’s a session that reminds you exactly why you fell in love with photography in the first place.

This was one of those shoots.

Jenny & Chet, thank you for saying yes (again!) and for embracing every wind gust, raindrop and icy moment the Blue Mountains threw our way. You two are absolute legends.

If you’re new here, hi — I’m Bryce, a Hunter Valley & Newcastle photographer capturing weddings, couples sessions and spontaneous adventures across NSW.
