Hunter Valley Elopement Photography
Some of my favourite weddings to photograph are elopements. They strip everything back to what matters — the two of you, your vows, and the handful of people who mean the most. Whether it's just you and your celebrant or a small group of your closest people, a Hunter Valley elopement is a relaxed, meaningful way to get married without the cost or complexity of a big wedding day.
I've photographed elopements and intimate weddings across the Hunter Valley for over a decade — so below you'll find everything you need to plan one: how it works, where to do it, what's included, and the practical bits like celebrants and paperwork.
What is an elopement or micro wedding?
An elopement (or micro wedding) usually means a short ceremony, just the two of you or a small guest list, a relaxed timeline, and a focus on real moments over formality. Most Hunter Valley elopements need only 2–3 hours of photography — enough to cover the ceremony, some relaxed portraits, and space to actually enjoy the day. It's not rushed and it's not staged — it's just real.
How to elope in the Hunter Valley
Eloping in NSW is simpler than most couples expect. The essentials are:
A registered celebrant to perform and lodge your marriage
A Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM), lodged with your celebrant at least one month before your date (and within 18 months of it)
Two witnesses aged 18 or over
Your celebrant will walk you through the paperwork, and I'm always happy to recommend ones I love working with. (This is general guidance, not legal advice — please confirm current requirements with your celebrant.)
Where to elope in the Hunter Valley
One of the best things about eloping here is how many beautiful spots sit within a short drive of each other. Popular Hunter Valley elopement locations include:
Vineyards and cellar doors around Pokolbin, Lovedale and Rothbury
Dedicated elopement properties and boutique estates — many offer mid-week intimate ceremonies with on-site accommodation, so there's no travel on the day
Gardens and private estates for an outdoor ceremony
Scenic lookouts and countryside settings around Wollombi and Broke
Not sure where to hold your ceremony or portraits? I'll suggest locations based on your guest numbers, the time of year and the feel you're after. You can also browse the venues I know well for more ideas.

Why couples choose me for their Hunter Valley elopement
Even a small day runs better with a calm, organised photographer. Over a decade and hundreds of weddings, I've learned to keep things relaxed and well-paced — guiding you when you want it, giving you space when you don't, and making sure the day flows instead of feeling managed. You won't feel posed; you'll feel looked after.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hunter Valley Elopements
How much does a Hunter Valley elopement cost?
My elopement coverage starts from $2,200. You'll find current collections on my pricing page.
How many hours of photography do we need for an elopement?
Most Hunter Valley elopements are perfectly covered within 2–3 hours — enough for the ceremony, a handful of relaxed portraits, and space to enjoy the moment without feeling rushed. If you're planning something larger or adding a lunch or dinner afterwards, we can always extend coverage.
Can you help us choose an elopement location?
Absolutely. One of the biggest advantages of eloping in the Hunter Valley is the variety of beautiful locations close together. I suggest spots based on guest numbers, time of year, light and weather, privacy and accessibility, and the overall vibe you're after — whether that's a vineyard, private property, scenic lookout or garden.
Can you photograph LGBTQIA+ elopements?
Yes, 100%. However you identify or define your relationship, I'd love to be part of your day. Love is love.
Do you photograph weekday elopements?
Yes — many elopements happen on weekdays, and they're a great option: better venue and vendor availability, a more relaxed atmosphere, more flexibility with timing, and a quieter experience overall. Some of the region's dedicated elopement venues run mid-week only.
Do you help with planning and timelines?
Yes — planning support is always included. Even for a small day, a simple timeline makes a big difference. I'll help you plan a relaxed, realistic schedule around ceremony timing, portraits in the best light, and any travel, so the day stays calm and unhurried.
How quickly will we receive our photos?
Preview images within 48 hours and your full gallery within 4 weeks. Because elopements are smaller, final galleries are often ready sooner.
Do you travel outside the Hunter Valley for elopements?
Yes — I regularly photograph elopements across Newcastle, the Central Coast, the Blue Mountains, Sydney and regional NSW. Happy to chat about locations further afield.
What if the weather changes on the day?
Weather shifts are normal with outdoor ceremonies, and I plan for them in advance. We build a flexible plan so we can adapt quickly — often a small change to timing or location is all it takes to keep the day running smoothly.
How far in advance should we book an elopement photographer?
Most couples book 3–9 months ahead, though it varies by season. If your date is soon, still reach out — I often have weekday availability and can work with shorter timelines.
How do we secure our elopement date?
A signed contract, a completed questionnaire and a booking fee. Once those are in, your date is locked in and we can start planning.
