Amber & Andy | Glenrock Engagement Shoot, Newcastle

Amber & Andy’s engagement shoot at Glenrock State Conservation Area was relaxed, playful, and full of energy — the kind of session that feels more like a wander at sunset than a photoshoot.

I first met these two when they moved in next door. It wasn’t until they started planning their wedding and spoke with their venue coordinator that they realised one of the photographers they’d been researching was, in fact, their neighbour. With my work popping up across social media, magazines, and vendor recommendations, we decided it was worth catching up properly — and the rest fell into place naturally.

Choosing Glenrock for a Newcastle Engagement Shoot

For their engagement session, Amber and Andy wanted a location that offered a mix of coastline and bushland — somewhere that felt varied without needing to travel between spots.

Glenrock is perfect for that. Easily accessible walking trails lead down from elevated lookout points with sweeping coastal views, past the lagoon, and onto the beach below. Along the way, the landscape changes constantly — from rugged rock platforms to open sand — which gives plenty of texture and variety in a single session.

Sunset Light, Coast & Bushland

We started higher up, making the most of the lookout as the afternoon light softened, before winding our way down toward the beach. As the sun dropped lower, the light became warmer and more directional — ideal for relaxed, natural portraits.

One end of the beach is rocky and dramatic, while the other opens out into softer sand. That contrast, paired with the golden light leading into sunset, makes Glenrock one of the most versatile engagement shoot locations around Newcastle.

Easy Energy & Natural Moments

Amber and Andy were effortless together — laughing, joking, and occasionally bumping into each other as they wandered along the shoreline. Engagement shoots are often as much about getting comfortable as they are about the photos themselves, and these two settled into it instantly.

When couples lean into the moment and focus on each other — forgetting there’s a camera involved — the images feel genuine and unforced. That was very much the case here.

A Great Way to Ease Into the Wedding Journey

Engagement shoots are a great opportunity for couples to get a feel for how I work, and for us to build an easy rhythm ahead of the wedding day. Amber and Andy were absolute naturals, and the whole session felt calm, fun, and completely them.

I’m really looking forward to being part of their wedding day and capturing the next chapter of their story.
