Maddi & Kurt’s Couples Shoot – Barrington Tops
Maddi & Kurt’s Couples Shoot – Barrington Tops
Some shoots feel more like an adventure with friends than a photoshoot — this was definitely one of those. Maddi and I go way back to high school in Maitland, and over the years we’ve worked together on a bunch of creative projects. So when I put a call-out looking for a couple keen to road-trip to Barrington Tops for a session, it was no surprise that Maddi messaged me straight away.
She and Kurt were all in. And they were perfect for it.
Road-Tripping into the Mountains
On a frosty winter’s day, we piled into the car with videographer Tim from Lighthouse Films and headed up into Barrington Tops. As we climbed higher, the air got colder, the fog thickened and the landscape turned wild and dramatic — exactly what we were hoping for.
There’s something about being out in the middle of nowhere with no reception, no distractions and no rush. Just a couple, some cameras and a ridiculous amount of beautiful scenery.
Mood, Movement & Connection
Maddi & Kurt are one of those couples who wear their connection on their sleeve — it’s obvious in the way they laugh, move and look at each other. The moody forest light, sweeping views and rocky outcrops were incredible, but the images only really worked because of the way they interacted.
They walked, ran, cuddled, goofed around and took in the views together. It never felt over-posed or rigid. Just two people completely comfortable being themselves in front of the camera.
That combo — big landscape + genuine connection — is where the magic happens.
Why Sessions Like This Mean So Much
This shoot is one of my favourites because it’s about more than just pretty photos. It’s a shared experience — a full day road trip, car snacks, bad jokes, cold hands, warm jackets and memories you can actually feel when you look back at the images.
If you’re drawn to this kind of adventure session, you don’t need a wedding date to make it happen. A couples shoot is an amazing way to celebrate your relationship as it is right now.
You can see more of how I approach sessions like this over on my weddings & couples page, and if you’d like to know what’s included, my pricing & packages break everything down simply.
A Massive Thanks
Huge thank you to Maddi & Kurt for trusting the vision, braving the cold and jumping into a 6.5-hour round trip for this session. Couldn’t have asked for better humans to share the day (and the chill) with.
